2009: My Year in Review

While every year brings change, 2009 brought more than the usual for my family.

Courtney graduated high school in June and in August, Rob, my sister Lisa and I moved her into her apartment at Columbia College Chicago. Courtney is a fashion retail management major enjoying college life and her new hometown. Rob and I enjoyed Parents’ Weekend where we were given an actual student project—it was fun to see what Courtney is doing.

Lindsay realized one of her dreams this year—she was hired to work the Vans Warped Tour. If you have teens, you probably know that Warped Tour is a traveling summer music festival that showcases up and coming bands. Lindsay found that living on the AT&T tour bus was heaven compared to the way she has previously lived while on the road. Lindsay adopted a Yorkshire Terrier puppy, Peppermint. She is a senior at Full Sail in Orlando, completing her degree in entertainment business.

Rob quit his day job this summer and spends his days at his studio in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. It was there he met Mollie, a stray Black Lab that joined our family this fall. Lindsay jokes that we replaced her with Sace (the Bichon Courtney adopted when Lindsay went off to college) and Courtney with Mollie. At least we hope she’s joking. Our cat, Other One, gets along well with the dogs and we sometimes find our three ‘kids’ napping together on their special chair.

I started this blog, ‘Treading Quicksand,’ to deal with my empty nest and then found I’m too busy to keep it up. I’m hoping 2010 will bring me a nice vacation and more time to write.

In closing, I wish my small but faithful following shalom—peace, harmony, wholeness and well-being, now and throughout the New Year.
